Dr. Richard Demmerle

Dr. Richard Demmerle has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 25 years and has spent most of his professional career in the five boroughs of New York City.
Dr Demmerle grew up in Brooklyn, NY and at an early age imagined himself in the field of veterinary medicine. His childhood home was always filled with an assortment of pets ranging from dogs, cats, frogs, salamanders, tropical fish and, what would later turn into an obsession, reptiles.
Dr. Demmerle earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from The City University of Staten Island. He then moved to St. Kitts and attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine where he received his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Living on the island provided him a wealth of experiences in life and veterinary medicine. After completion of classes at Ross, his final year of practicum was spent in the US at the University of Oklahoma.

After concluding his studies, he started working at the same hospital where he began his career as a technician and now returned as a doctor. He continued to develop professionally and eventually became involved with multiple animal welfare groups and the Animal Care and Control of NYC, working with them for the next 12 years. Dr. Demmerle continues to advocate and work with these groups whenever possible.

Dr. Demmerle opened his own practice, Veterinary Clinic of East Harlem, in 2010. During that time he provided services to pet-parents who were in difficult financial situations. He found it truly fulfilling to be able to help people afford the care their pets needed.

In his personal time, Dr. Demmerle enjoys raising and caring for a variety of pets including, all kinds of amphibians, reptiles, birds, tropical and saltwater fish, dogs and cats with his fiancé, Andrea. They also have two Doberman Pinschers, a 10 year old named George and a 2 year old name Pete.

As a new addition to Pawling Animal Clinic, Dr. Demmerle brings years of experience as well as a compassion for animals and the people who share their homes and lives with them.
